I had the opportunity to play at “The Ultimate Outdoor House Concert” on November 22, 2008.

Earlier in the year, family friends Jeff and Kelly Hunter successfully bid on a house concert.  Tyler’s First Baptist Church auctioned the house concert along with many other (much more valuable) items to raise money for the FBC youth program.

These auctions, emceed by Scott Wiley, have been a huge success for several years.  Jeff has also helped pull bids from the hands of the participants as an auctioneer’s helper.  Jeff and Kelly provided the winning house concert bid for this one.  After completing an outdoor covered patio at their home, complete with Texas Sized Fireplace, the evening was set.  We dined on BBQ, all the fixins’ and some heavenly oven-fresh rolls from Grandy’s.  Man, I thought I would have to take a nap before playing.

The temperature was a bit cool, but with the help of a few snuggles, a few blankets and one “Patented Butt Warmer” we were set for an enjoyable evening.

Newt Farrar was good enough to help co-write one of the songs done that night.  He wrote lyrics about helping his Mom sell some of of his Dad’s stuff after his passing.  He’s also trying to raise money to get his mother out of the county jail.  Every little bit helps.  Newt titled his song “Big _ _ _ Garage Sale”  I knew he was a class-act guitar picker, but I never knew he had talent for writing lyrics!
